SOUTHWEST MADAGASCAR OVERLAND TOUR BY 4WD CAR:
TANA-ANTSIRABE-MORONDAVA-TSINGY-MORONDAVA-MANJA-MANGILY-TULEAR-RN7-TANA (-ANDASIBE-TANA)
It's an overlanding trip combining adventure, discovery, and relaxation to Madagascar's most interesting parks and sites, lasting 18 or 21 days, departing from and returning to Antananarivo. This tour can be done in reverse with the following details:
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Landscapes and visits to the highland towns (Tana, Antsirabe, Ambatolampy, Ambositra, Fianarantsoa, Amabalavo)
- Visits to the national parks: Tsingy, Kirindy, Isalo, Anja, Ranomafana, Tsaranoro
- Relaxation on the beach at your choice of Mangily and Ifaty or Anakao
LEVEL:
Accessible to all: This tour is entirely by 4x4 vehicle and includes short 4-hour hikes on prepared tracks in the national parks.
This tour is only available during the dry season, from April to November.
Day 1: Antananarivo - Antsirabe (5-hour drive)
Pick-up at Ivato-Antananarivo Airport or your hotel. A few errands to run (SIM card, currency exchange, snacks...) and then we head south on the RN7 to joiin Antsirabe.
We pass through magnificent landscapes of rocky hills, the towns of Ambatolampy and Behenjy, and ricefields. The daily life of the Merina tribes unfolds under our eyes.

Day 2: Antsirabe - Morondava (10-hour drive)
We start the day early with a detour westward. The temperature rises as we travel, passing through the villages of Mandoto and Miandrivazo before arriving in Morondava in the evening. The cool monsoon winds make us want to spend the eveening close the beach.

Day 3: Morondava - Bekopaka (10-hour drive)
Morning: First part of the ride on a track from Morondava to Belo sur Tsiribihina. Around midday, we reach the banks of the Tsiribihina River where the ferry awaits to take us across. Lunch in Belo sur Tsiribihina.
Afternoon: Second part of the ride from Belo to Bekopaka. It becomes more intense and challenging; we cross marshes, fords, and sandy tracks.
- Overnight to Orchidée de Bemaraha Hotel or similar.
Day 4: Visit to the Tsingy de Bemaraha
A fulll day of hiking to Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park. The visit is divided into two parts: the Big Tsingy, after a 1-hour drive on a dirt track, followed by a 4-hour trek through karst formations and primary forest. We cross gorges, viewpoints, and suspension bridges... then the LittleTsingy in the afternoon (approximately 2 hours trek).

Day 5: Bekopaka - Morondava
Return journey along the same track to Morondava. We have no alternative route but must take the track to reach Morondava. Depending on your preference and availability, we can schedule a visit to Kirindy National Park halfway there (this will add an extra day). Late on the afternoon, we pass by the baobabs (sacred and romantic), especially the Avenue of the Baobabs at sunset for a superb photo opportunity.

Day 6: Morondava - Manja (10 hours)
Early morning departure along the track towards Manja. Note that you should stock up water and snacks or a picnic before setting off. This route is no longer a simple adventure but rather a trek through the bush, following trails for kilometers through the heart of the bush and crossing rivers.

Day 7: Manja-Mangily via the RN9 (8-hour drive)
Departure from Manja. There are only a few kilometers of dirt track left before the Bevoay ferry crossing. After the ferry, it's a long but well-paved road to Mangily and Tulear. Captivating landscapes of fisher villages, baobab trees...

Day 8: Relaxing day and beach in Mangily
A wide range of activities and visits are available: Baobab Forest or Reniala, pirogue trips to marine reserves, coconut palm-fringed beaches of Madiorano...

Day 9: Day of exploration in Tulear
It's only 25km from Mangily to Tulear. We dedicate our day to exploring the sites around Tulear (Sainte Augustin for flamingo watching, Sarodrano Cave&swimming pool).

Day 10: Tulear - Ranohira (9-hour drive)
We begin our journey along the RN7, heading north from Tulear towards Antananarivo (Tana), taking it at a leisurely pace. We pass through the villages of Sakaraha and Ilakaka, famous for the sale and prospecting of precious stones.

Day 11: Isalo National Park visit
Meet with the guide at the park office. Depending on our preferences and physical condition, we can choose between the longer or shorter hike, which takes approximately 4 hours. The scenery is breathtaking, with sandstone massifs, abundant flora and fauna, waterfalls, and canyons.

Day 12: Ranohira - Tsaranoro (Andringitra National Park)
We continue along the National Road 7, crossing the vast Ihorombe Plateau and passing through the town of Ihosy and the imposing granite massifs surrounding Ambalavao. A short distance from Ambalavao, we make a slight detour to Andringitra National Park and Tsaranoro.

Day 14: Visit to Andringitra National Park
A day trip to Chameleon Peak and the viewpoint overlooking the Tsaranoro Massif immerses us in an environment completely removed from civilization.

Day 15: Tsaranoro (Andringitra National Park) - Ranomafana (7-hour drive)
We continue our journey to Ambalavao (visit to an Antemoro paper-making workshop), Fianarantsoa, and finally Ranomafana.

Day 16: Visit to Ranomafana National Park
Transfer to the park office followed by a 4-hour hike for a beautiful exploration rich in flora and fauna. The park is located in the heart of the tropical rainforest and is most famous for observing a variety of lemurs and geckos.

Day 17: Ranomafana - Antsirabe (8-hour drive)
The road continues along the RN7 and we pass through Ambositra (visit to art studios and galleries, lunch break). We end the day in Antsirabe.

Day 18: Antsirabe - Antananarivo (or Andasibe extension)
The final stage of the RN7 to Antananarivo takes approximately 6 hours. Depending on the length of your stay, we can end here with a transfer to the airport or continue with a short 2-day extension to Andasibe National Park to the east.
